Boreal Health Partnership awarded contract for new Stanton Territorial Hospital

Boreal Health Partnership will design, build, finance and maintain the new Stanton Territorial Hospital in Yellowknife.

The Government of the Northwest Territories announced that itsigned an agreement with the consortium, which includes Clark Builders Ltd. and Kasian Architects.

"Construction on the new hospital, which will start this fall, will see the current facility replaced by a new purpose-designed facility that will address patient needs and provide high-quality health care delivery," Finance Minister Michael Miltenberger said in a press release.

The $300 million project will see a new hospital built in the area of the current hospital the square footage is expected to almost double in size to 280,000 square feet.

The new facility will have a larger emergency department, a new medical laboratory, and video conferencing to provide medical support to the communities. All inpatient beds will also be replaced with single inpatient rooms.

"BHP has developed an innovative solution for construction of the new hospital and the delivery of facilities management services that will provide excellent value for the people of the Northwest Territories," said Edmund Mahabir, a representative for Boreal Health Partnership,said in the press release.

Theproject is the largestever undertaken by the territorial government, according to the Stanton Renewal website.

Construction will begin this fall and is expected to be complete in about three years.
