Brian Wilmshurst last musher to finish Yukon Quest

Dawson City musher Brian Wilmshurst was the last musher to cross the finish line in the 2014 Yukon Quest, late Friday afternoon.

Wilmshurstwon't have the longest race time, however. Jerry Joinsen, who came in about half an hour before Wilmshurst, was assessed an eight-hour penalty to his final time after he broughtin a new sled to replace a damaged one, earlier in the race. Joinsentakes the Red Lantern Award.

This year's Quest was won on Monday by last year's champion, Allen Moore. This year the finish line was moved to Takhini Hot Springs, 30 kilometres north of Whitehorse,due to poor trail conditions heading into the traditional finish line in Whitehorse.

Seven mushers were withdrawn or scratched from this year's Quest. Wilmshurst was the only Yukoner remaining in the race after Jean-Denis Britten, from Dawson City, and Normand Casavant, from Whitehorse, scratched on the second day.

MeanwhileBrent Sass, who was leading the Yukon Quest at one point,is pulling out of theIditarod. Sasswas withdrawn from the Questafter an accident nearBraeburn. Sass says his health is still not 100 per cent.

The Iditarodstarts March 1from Anchorage, Alaska.
