City of Yellowknife shows its pride with rainbow crosswalk downtown

The City of Yellowknife is showing its support of the LGBT community today. Late last night Public Works employees painted the colours of the pride flag in front of City Hall.

The City of Yellowknife is showing its support of the LGBT community today.

Late Tuesdaynight Public Works employees painted a crosswalk in front of City Hall in the colours of the Pride rainbow.Therainbowflag is a symbol of theLGBTcommunity;the painted crosswalks are seen as a sign of welcoming to the community.

The crosswalk is at the intersection of49 Avenueand 52 Street.

Yellowknife joins a host of other cities, such as Ottawa,HalifaxandCornerbrook,that have also painted crosswalks in the Pride colours.

"Love our new crosswalks outside City Hall," said Yellowknife Mayor Mark Heyck in a Facebook post.

"Thanks to our Public Works crew who were up very late making it happen."

The City of Yellowknife's Facebook page also shared photos of the new paint job, exclaiming,"It's [a] good day to be a Yellowknifer!"
