Rail lines near N.W.T.-Alberta border suffered 'significant damage' from wildfire, CN Rail says

There is no timeline for when the lines will be fixed, but it's expected to be down for several weeks.

Rail service has been disrupted after lines near the N.W.T.-Alberta border south of Enterpriseweredamaged by a nearby wildfire, CN Rail said Wednesday.

In a statement, CN Rail said they're continuingto assess the damage.

"Initial reports indicate the damage is significant," the rail company stated.

The wildfire in question forced the closure of Highway 1out of the N.W.T. overnight on Monday.

There is no timeline for when the lines will be fixed, but it's expected to be down for several weeks.

Repairs are starting right away, and will continue "as long as conditions remain safe to do so," the statement said.

"CN is actively engaged with customers to help protect supply chains and ensure goods continue to flow to communities," it stated.

Earlier this month, CN Rail announced it is discontinuing its rail servicebetween Enterprise and Hay River to thenortheast.The company said it has decided not torebuild 30 kilometres of railway in that area that got damaged in last year's wildfires.
