Nunavut coroner to hold inquest into Cape Dorset death in RCMP custody

Nunavut's coroner has ordered an inquest into the death of a Cape Dorset man last week in police custody.

Adla Pudlat, 29, was found unresponsive in a cell at the localRCMPdetachment May 20and was later pronounced dead.

Under Nunavut's Coroners Act, inquests are mandatorywhen deaths occur in police custody.

No date for the inquest has been set.

The coroner's office will schedule the inquest after an external investigation by the Ottawa Police Service is completed.
