Alberta couple busted in Yellowknife motel for allegedly making counterfeit cash

RCMP are warning people in Yellowknife to check their money carefully after an Alberta couple was discovered in a local motel allegedly making counterfeit currency.

Surveillance video helped track down a couple who were allegedly making and using counterfeit cash

Two young people from Alberta are under arrest and charged with making counterfeit money in Yellowknife.

According to an RCMP news release, on Monday, a local business alerted them tobills they believed were counterfeit.

Using surveillance footage, policewere able to identify the suspects and track themdown at a local motel.

Police searched the couple's room and seized suspected counterfeit money, as well as equipment associated with producingcounterfeit money.

Tyler Melnick, 23, and Karlee Hanelt, 22,both from Alberta, are facing charges.

RCMP say that although they've arrested the pair, people and businesses should should "be vigilant" whenchecking their money.
