Person became sick and unconscious after consuming a drink that was left unattended

YellowknifeRCMP say it's possible a date-rape drug was put in a person's drink ata city barlast weekend.

RCMP say they received a report on Friday that a person had become sick and unconscious, after consuming a drink that was left unattended at a local bar.

The person went to the hospital the next day and was told their symptoms were consistent with having been given a drugcalled gammahydroxybutyrate, or GHB.

In liquid form, GHB is odourless, colourless and tastelessand can easily be slipped into people's drinks. The drug takes effect quickly, usually within 10 to 20 minutes.

The RCMP say its sedative effects prevent victims from resisting sexual assault.

Police are telling people to keep an eye on their food and drinksand if you see anyone tampering with a person's food or drink, report it.
