Dettah man convicted of sex assault on male teen

Narcisse Sangris, 43, was found guilty of sexual interference and sexual assault in a Yellowknife courtroom Thursday.

A 43-year-old Dettah, N.W.T., man wasfound guilty of sexual interference and sexual assault in a Yellowknife courtroom Thursday.

Narcisse Sangris was convicted despite claiming hewas the victim. The judge said she didn't believe Sangris' account of the incident.

With eight relatives sitting behind him in the gallery, Sangris sat quietly beside his lawyer as the judge read her verdict.

On Tuesday, he told the court that the 14-year-old boy he was accused of sexually assaulting hadactually sexually assaulted him, butJustice Karan Shaner used phrases such as "bizarre" and "highly inconsistent" to describe Sangris' story.

Sangris had testifiedhe awoke on his couch after drinking to find the boy on top of him.

But records of a Facebook chat revealed Sangris had invited the boy over to his house just before, offering to show him pornography.

Sangrishad testified he didn't know the boy's age, but the judge pointed out that in a recorded statement after his arrest, he told the police the boy was 15years old.

The boy testified that when he got to Sangris apartment, Sangris removed both his pants and the boys', and fondled him.

The law prevents people from being convicted of multiple charges for the same incident so the judge stayed the sexual assault conviction.

No date has been set for Sangris' sentencing.
