First Iqaluit dump fire of 2014 officially out
Firefighters were called to the dump in the early afternoon Thursday. They say the fire was under control in about an hour, and out by 8 p.m.
The Iqaluit landfill caught fire again on March 27.
Fire Chief Luc Grandmaison says firefighters were called to the dump around 1pm.
When they arrived, they found about 150 square meters of burning garbage.The fire was near the entrance to the site, easily accessible to fire crews.
Firefighters had it under control in about an hour. Crews remained atthe site dealing with hot spots and the fire was officially out by 8 p.m.
No one was injured.The cause of the blaze is unknown.
This is just the latest in a series of fires to break out at the dump. The most recent was in December of 2013.
In the fall of 2010, a fire burned out of control for over a month.
