Fly Sarvaq announces lower-cost Iqaluit-Ottawa flights

A new company, Fly Sarvaq, announced Thursday night it will operate flights twice a week between Ottawa and Iqaluit, on Mondays and Fridays.

Iqaluittravellers maysoon have a new and cheaper way to get to Ottawa and Halifax.

A new air transportation service, Fly Sarvaq, announced Thursday night itwill operate flights twice a week between Ottawa and Iqaluit,on Mondays and Fridays. It will also offer flights once a week betweenIqaluit and Halifaxon Fridays.

Fly Sarvaq is a partnership between Iqaluit-basedSarvaq Logistics and Nolinor Aviation.

"We identified a need that we saw, and with the model that we have we think we can make it work," saidBrianTattuinee,spokesperson for FlySarvaq.

"We are confident that once we launch, Nunavummiut and Maritimers who want a more cost-efficient way to travel will book with us."

Thecompany says its introductoryticket prices will be $499 oneway includingtaxes and fees.

NolinorAviation will operate the flights using a Boeing 737-200 with room for up to 119 passengers.

Tickets are expected to go on sale starting March 1, with flights scheduled to begin on May 6.
