Food in Nunavut costs twice as much as Canadian average

People living in Nunavut don't need to be reminded they pay more for groceriesthan other Canadians, butthe Nunavut Bureau of Statistics has released some new statistics showing exactlyhowmuch more they pay.

The territorial statisticscollector sampled food and non-food item prices in all 25 Nunavut communities in March 2015. It thencompared them with what Statistics Canada says is the Canadian average for those same items.

The average Canadian pays$5.03 for a 2.5-kilogram bag of white flour, while Nunavut residents paymore than double that, $13.60.

In generalNunavummiut can expect to pay around twice theprice otherCanadians pay for the same items.
