Former Sanikiluaq teacher faces more charges

A former elementary school teacher from Sanikiluaq, Nunavut,now faces 40 sex-related charges.

Johnny Meeko made a brief appearance at the Iqaluit courthouseWednesday afternoon. The 58-year-old taught at Nuiyak School in Sanikiluaq.

Meeko wascharged in mid-August with 29 offencesagainst eight alleged victims between 1984 and 2006.

He's now accused of sexually abusing 12 alleged victims.

His show cause hearing was supposed to take place Wednesday but his lawyer Deanna Harris said she needed more time to review the files.

The show cause hearing is now scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
