Fort McPherson RCMP seize liquor on Dempster Highway

RCMP in Fort McPherson seized liquor from three vehicles at a check-stop on the Dempster Highway last Friday, according to a release from police.

RCMP in Fort McPherson seized liquor at a check-stop on the Dempster Highway, north of Fort McPherson,last Friday according to a release from police.

Liquor was taken from three vehicles, including more than 39 litres ofvodka and four cases of beer.

"Fort McPherson is a restricted community and the quantity of liquor that a person may possess is strictly limited by the Northwest Territories Liquor Act," the release said. "Bootlegging has been an issue in the community and seizures of alcohol help curtail problems that come along with the abuse of alcohol."

The RCMP said the investigation continues but there are no charges at this time.
