Two young men in Fort Providence, N.W.T., are accused of severely beating and robbing an elder in the community.

RCMP said the elder sustained serious injuries and was medevaced to Stanton Territorial Hospital in Yellowknife. Police say the attack happened in the early morning hours of Saturday.

The RCMP assigned its Major Crimes Unit and Forensic Identification Services to the investigation. With the help of people in the community, they arrested and charged two men.

Logan Causa, 24, and Zach Lesage, 23, are both facing several charges including aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and robbery.

It was the second time this month that Causa has been arrested, according to court records. He's also accused of a robbery that police allege occurred on June 5. He was released on bail on that charge 10 days before the elder was medevaced.

Lesage was already facing a charge of assault causing bodily harm related to an incident in January. He was released on bail in March. He is also facing impaired driving charges from last year.

So far, both men remain in custody on the more recent charges.
