Group seeks northern university opinions

A Canadian public policy foundation wants to hear what people think about creating a university in Canada's Arctic.

A Canadian public policy foundation wants to hear what people think about creating a university in Canada's Arctic.

The Walter and Duncan Gordon Foundation has set up an online questionnaire where people can answer a series of questions about the creation of a northern university.

The information collected in the survey will be used for a discussion taking place in Yellowknife early next month, according to the foundation's website.

Currently there is no university in the three northern territories, although each territory has a college that has partnerships with southern Canadian universities for selected degree programs.

The Walter and Duncan Gordon Foundation has already commissioned a report outlining what post-secondary education options currently exist in the North. The report also looks at possible models for a northern Canadian university, based on similar facilities in other countries.
