Bobbie Jo Greenland-Morgan elected new president of Gwich'in Tribal Council

According to preliminary election results, Bobbie Jo Greenland-Morgan ousted former president James Wilson in Monday's vote.

Bobbie Jo Greenland-Morgan has been elected president of the Gwich'in Tribal Council, according to preliminary election results.

Greenland-Morgan won by a wide margin in Monday's election, garnering 454 votes.

She ousted former president James Wilson, who came in third place with 273 votes. Jozef Carnogursky came in second with 290 votes.

"I am very honoured to have received the votes that I have today," Greenland-Morgan said in a Facebook post Monday night. "Exciting times for young leaders."

"I look forward to working hard and helping make continued changes forward. I value our land, our rights and our culture and I will do my best to represent all Gwich'in."

Jordan Peterson was also elected vice president of the Gwich'in Tribal Council.

The Gwich'in Tribal Council is the elected government of the Gwich'in in the N.W.T.'s MackenzieDelta and across Canada.
