The Hay River Curling Club says it will donate $20,000 each week to help build the town's new recreation centre for the remainder of its Chase the Ace lottery.

Curling Club fundraiser raising more money than expected

The Hay River Curling Club says it will donate $20,000each week tohelp build the town's new recreation centrefor the remainder of its Chase the Ace lottery.

The club estimates its own windfall will surpass $400,000 this week. Its president, Glenn Smith, says that is way more than the club expected to raiseand he wants to give back to the greater community.

"The recreation building is an asset the entire community benefits from and we feel it is a fitting facility to demonstrate our thanksto the town and everyone who has supported the raffle," Smith said.

"With less than ideal economic conditions facing our community, we hope the contribution will help reduce stress on local vendors, taxpayers and your fundraising committee in raising the required funds for the facility."

The top prize at tonight's draw is expected to be more than $280,000.
