No injuries as vehicle fire spreads to house in Hay River

The Hay River Fire Department was able to save a house in the community after it caught fire from a vehicle burning in the driveway on Saturday.

The Hay River Fire Department was able to save a house in the community after it caught fire from a vehicle burning in the driveway on Saturday.

One person was in the house at the time and got out safely, according to an RCMP news release.

While investigating, police also located anothervehicle on the property that had been stolen earlier that evening. Police said in a news release that they believe the the incident was related to a vehicle theft earlier that night.

They're also investigating the possibility the incident is related to two vehicle theftson Oct. 21, one of which was later found burning in the town's industrial area.

Police are reminding people in Hay River to lock their vehicles and not leave the keys in them while unattended.

They're also asking anyone with information to call the local detachment at 867-874-1111 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

  • An earlier version of this story said a stolen vehicle was burning in a driveway. In fact, it was another vehicle that was on fire; police also found a stolen vehicle on the property.
