Heroic father's body found in Yukon River

The body of a Whitehorse man who drowned in the Yukon Riverafterjumping into save his young son was discovered Thursday near the Chilkoot Centre, RCMP say.

Police and community volunteers had been searching for Benji Correos, 45, since Aug. 16 when he went into the water to rescueseven-year-old Miles.

Two strangers jumped in andpulled the boy to safety, but they were unable to reachthe father, who was pulledunder by the river's strong current.

Correos was a well-known member of the city's Filipino community.
