2 new holdover fires found in N.W.T.'s Dehcho region

Two new holdover fires have been discovered in the N.W.T.'s Dehcho. Both fires are less than one hectare large and pose no threat to communities or infrastructure according to NWT Fire.

Fire ban also now in place in Fort Smith

Two overwintering fires have been discovered in the N.W.T. 's Dehcho region according to NWT Fire.

One fire, FS001, is about one kilometrefrom Tetcho Lake east of Sambaa K'e.

The second, fire FS002, is located about 23 kilometresfrom Fort Liard southwest of the Liard River and about 14 kilometresfrom the British Columbia-N.W.T. border.

Both fires are less than one hectare large and NWT Fire says neither poseany risk risk communities, cabins or infrastructure.

A third holdover fire was discovered Sunday about seven kilometres north of Enterprise. That fire was quickly brought under control the same day it was discovered.

There have been a total of five active fires in the territory, including two near Fort Smith that have already been declared out.

Fort Smith announced Saturday that a fire ban is now in place for the town and no open flames are permitted within municipal boundaries.
