Inuvik, South Slave submit bids for Arctic Winter Games 2018

The Town of Inuvik submitted its bid Wednesday and the South Slave bid is ready to go, after months of work by both bid committees.

This has been an amazing partnership project so far, and its only the beginning, says Mayor Floyd Roland of Inuvik in a news release.

Roland says the bid committee worked closely with partners in Aklavik, Tuktoyaktuk and Fort McPherson.

The town has estimated the games could cost about $7.5 million thats if they dont decide to build new infrastructure.

In the South Slave, Hay River town council approved a joint bid Monday night, with Fort Smith council doing likewise Tuesday night.

I think weve got a winning document, says Brad Brake, Fort Smiths mayor. The bid looks good. It addresses all of the requirements of the bid documents and I think that the 2018 Arctic Winter Games in the South Slave is going to be a really good one."

Friday is the deadline to submit bids to the International Committee.
