Iqaluit dump fire gets its own Twitter account

Iqaluit's dump fire, dubbed #dumpcano after the city's fire chief compared it to a volcano, has taken to social media.

Iqaluit's dump fire, dubbed a #dumpcano after the city's fire chief compared it to a volcano earlier this week, has taken to social media.

It now has its own Twitter account, @yfbdumpcano.

Iqaluit city council decided at an emergency meeting Tuesday night to letthe fire burn rather than put more water on it, due to a shortage of water delivery trucks and concerns that runoff may leach into Frobisher Bay.

Nunavut's chief medical officer of health has recommended people with respiratory problems avoid smoke from the fire by staying indoors with the windows shut.

The city is holding a news conference later todayto provide an update on the situation.

The fire's persistencecontinues to fan the Twitter flames. Here are a few examples.
