Students at Inuksuk High School in Iqaluit showed off an array of talents recently during the school's annual talent show.

Daniel Kolola played guitar and sang several cover songs, including a number by Iqaluits own Jerry Cans.

I did it last year and and I sang Mamaqtuu and it was fun, but I thought I could do better this year and I think I did, he says. It was fun, just to help keep our tradition and keep our language going."

Some of these kids really opened up a lot, says Jennifer Taus, who organized the event. You can tell it was therapeutic for them.

Taus says the event was a good reminder that music is a universal language.

We can all be moved by it and we can come together. We can move on from pain and suffering that we've all endured.

Alexie Biag, who sang a song and playedhis guitar, came in first place.

A traditional performance with throat singing and drum dancing took second

A pair of masked choreographed dancers came in third.
