Iqaluit memorial held for slain woman, daughters

Hundreds of people attended a memorial service in Iqaluit on Friday to remember a woman who was found dead along with her two young daughters last month.

The bodies of Sula Enuaraq, 29, and her daughters Alexandra, 7, and Aliyah Degrasse, 2, werediscovered in their home on June 7, in a widely suspected case of murder-suicide involving the children's father.

Sylvain Degrasse was found dead the same day at the local cemetery with a rifle beside his body.

Autopsy results indicated the family members had died of gunshot woundsto the face and head.

Photographs of Enuaraq and the girls were displayed at Friday afternoon's memorial service, along with some of Alexandra's drawings.

Rev. Mike Gardener led the service, which featured speeches by Enuaraq's father and uncle and performances by musician Lucie Idlout and others.

Enuaraq and her daughters were recently buried in Pond Inlet, Nunavut, while Degrasse was buried in Iqaluit.

RCMP continue to investigate the deaths.
