Jackson Kablutsiak raises $13,000 for kidney foundation

An Arviat, Nunavut, man's fundraising walk has raised almost $13,000 for the Kidney Foundation of Canada.

21-year-old Arviat kidney recipient walked more than 100 km

An Arviat, Nunavut man's fundraising walk has raised almost $13,000for the Kidney Foundation of Canada.

That's almost triple the amount Jackson Kablutsiak, 21, set as a goal when he walked more than 100 kilometres fromArviattoMaguseLake and back earlier this month.It took him, twofriends and a family dog four days to do the walk.

A fundraising walk by Jackson Kablutsiak of Arviat, Nunavut, raised almost $13,000 for the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Kablutsiak presented the donation in person at the foundation's office in Winnipeg.

"I'm happy that I will be giving the money to the kidney foundation and will be helping I don't know how many people," he said. "I did this because Iwanted to give back what was given to me and that's why Idid the fundraising."

Kablutsiak is the only person in Arviat who has had a kidney transplant.

Kablutsiakrecently handed the cheque over to the Canadian Kidney Foundation in Winnipeg. He says he wants to continue raising awareness about kidney disease.
