Leonardo DiCaprio film holds open casting call in Yellowknife

The Revenant, a film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is holding an open casting call for First Nations women in Yellowknife on Saturday.

A film starring Leonardo DiCapriois holding an open casting call for First Nations women in Yellowknife on Saturday.

The film The Revenantis set to start shooting in Alberta and British Columbia, with an expected release in late 2015.

The movie takes place in the 1800s and follows the vengeful life of Hugh Glass, played by DiCaprio.

Representatives from the film will be at the Yellowknife Inn from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday looking for a First Nations woman in her 20sor early 30sto play Powaqa,an Arikarawarrior.

Emma Day, who is with the casting department for the movie, says women interested in the role don't have to have any acting experience, nor do they need to prepare anything for the casting call.

"There's no need to do makeup or costume nothing like that," she said. "We just wantwho you are as a human being.

"She is with a lot of the lead characters in the film. And like I said, she's a warrior, so she's in all the warrior scenes that happen in the movie, and her part is integral to the story. It's a very important role."

Day said the casting call simply involves taking some pictures and being interviewed.

Callbacks are expected to take place on Sunday.
