Long-form census will bring jobs to Yukon, N.W.T., Nunavut

The 2016 long-form census is going to create some part-time work for people in Yukon, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories.

The 2016 long-form census is going to create some part-time work for people in Yukon, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories.

The new Liberal government recently reinstated the mandatory long-form census after the Conservatives replaced it with a voluntary household survey.

Early enumerators will be needed next month to count residents in remote communities before they relocate to hunting and fishing camps for the summer.

Workers will also be needed to mail out census packages to all Northern homes by early May.

The employment periods will vary, but some jobs are expected to last until the end of July.

The Liberals say the census data is useful for everyone from city planners to governments.
