Man found dead after house fire in Whitehorse

Yukon's coroner says a man was found dead after a house fire in Whitehorse's Mary Lake subdivision.

Yukon's coroner says a man was found dead after a house fire in Whitehorse's Mary Lake subdivision.

Chief coroner Heather Jones confirmed to CBC News that the body of an adult male was found in the home on Fireweed Drive.

The fire happened on Friday night, she said in a news release on Tuesday. She says RCMPand the Whitehorse Fire Department were called just after 9 p.m. to the home that was "extensively damaged by fire."

Officials have not released the deceased man's name or any other details. The coroner's release saysthe man's identity "has not yet been positively confirmed at this time."

The fire department says the fire is still under investigation. RCMP and the coroner are also involved in the investigation.
