Man killed in Klondike Highway rollover

One man was killed Thursday night on the Klondike Highway, after the vehicle he was in rolled over near Pelly Crossing, Yukon.

One man was killed Thursday night on the Klondike Highway, after the vehicle he was in rolled over near Pelly Crossing, Yukon.

RCMP say alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the rollover, which occurred shortly before 9:40 p.m. PT near Jackfish Lake south of Pelly Crossing.

Police say a total of six men were inside the vehicle, all of whom were not from the territory.

Five of the men, including the driver, were wearing seatbelts at the time of the incident and were not seriously injured, according to police.

The sixth man, who was thrown from the vehicle, was found in critical condition with severe trauma to his entire body. He was pronounced dead at about 10:30 p.m., according to police.

RCMP have not released the deceased man's name, pending notificationof his next of kin. The driver of the vehicle is under investigation.

The Klondike Highway between Pelly Crossing and Carmacks was closed Thursday night and Friday morning, so officers can investigate the rollover. The road was expected to reopen at noon Friday.
