Two more hunters in the Northwest Territories have been charged with wasting caribou meat in the Tlicho region, about 200 kilometres north of Yellowknife.

Two more hunters in the Northwest Territories have been charged with wasting caribou meat in the Tlicho region, about 200 kilometres north of Yellowknife.

Last month, five other hunters were charged after dozens of dead caribou were discoverednear thecommunity of Wekweti and the old Colomac mine site.

Only the heads or back straps had been taken from many of the animals, with the rest of the meat left to waste, wildlife officials said.

Wasting and abandoning the meat of hunted wildlife, allowing it to spoil, is an offence in the territory.

Thehunters face fines of$500. If they do not pay the fine, or want to challenge the charge, their case will go to court.
