A new tourism commercial released this week by the Yukon Government targeted at winter visitors and featuringnorthern lightsis getting some criticism at home.

The ad, which is called "We'll Leave The Light On For You Come to our Yukon,"includes shots of the auroraborealisandYukonerssnowshoeing to a cabin.

Yukon filmmaker Dennis Allen takes issue that there's no First Nations representation. In an email to CBC News he wrote:"As a creative professional, it baffles me to think that during the creative process for this production, Yukon First Nations were not considered... It is a blatant snub."

On social media, reaction to the ad has been mixed.

The Yukon Government says the ad is just one in a series.

"The primary objective is to showcase northern lights and midnight sun but this will be buttressed by some other themes and so there will be ample opportunity to showcase First Nations culture among some of the upcoming commercials," said Jonathan Parker, a spokesperson Department of Tourismand Culture.

Parker says the ad will air in February on 24 network and specialty channels.

Another winter commercial is expected next falland two summer ads are slated for 2017.Parker says the budget for all four ads is expected to be about half a million dollars.
