Codeshare airlines to face heat in Nunavut legislature today

Representatives from First Air, Canadian North and Calm Air will be at Nunavut's Legislative Assembly in Iqaluittoday to answer questions from MLAsabout theircodeshare agreements.

Late last year Nunavut Premier Peter Taptuna, along with the Department of Health, sent letters to the airlines outlining concerns they had with changes in service, in particular the codeshare agreements between the airlines.

The agreements came intoeffect last year, afterCanadian North and First Air called off merger talks. First Air has said the codeshare agreementsthat allow for sharing of passengers and cargo on select routes areneeded to keep the company's operations financially viable.

The Canadian Competition Bureau is conducting a review of the companies' codeshare practices to see if the agreements are lessening competition.

The meeting is scheduled torun9 a.m.-5 p.m.It is open to the public and will be televised.
