Nunavut MLA Fred Schell apologizes for wrongful conduct

South Baffin MLA Fred Schell issued a brief apology in Nunavut's legislative assembly for breaching the territorys Integrity Act.

Last fall, the Integrity Commissionerfound Schell guilty in six out of nine allegations against him.

Today was his deadline to issue an apology.

"I would like to extend my sincere apologies to my peers, colleagues and all of my constituents in Cape Dorset, and Kimmirut and all Nunavummiut. I'm sorry for my wrongful conduct laid out in the Integrity Commissioner report," said Schell.

Schellresigned from cabinetin November.

He was fined $10,000 and had to send letters of apology to two government staff members. He said he also met the requirement to meet with elders to discuss his conduct.

Schell promised to be more conscientious and faithful in the future.
