Nunavut Stars Hockey camp is back

The annual Nunavut Stars Hockey camp in Iqaluit is back this summer after a year off due to airfare costs.

'Hockey players from all over that will be able to come are very excited'

The Nunavut Stars Hockey camp is back this summer after a year off due to airfare costs.

"Hockey players from all over that will be able to come are very excited," said Jesse Mike, the lead organizer of the camp.

The free hockey camp for players between the ages of five to 18 wants to bring together more than 120 kids from across the territory.

Last year, the camp was cancelled when a deal for free airfare with an airline fell through.

"We want every youth to have an equal opportunity to take part," said Mike.

"This opportunity is to have an ability to learn more skills from high level coaches."

Coaches at past camps have included Gillian Apps from the Canadian Olympic hockey team.

This year, the camp will run from August 14 to 18 in Iqaluit.First Air is offering discounted airfares for players from other communities who want to take part.

Mike said the camp has received a lot of support from Iqaluit businesses, butis still fundraising for this year's session.

There is no deadline to register.
