The Northwest Territories Power Corporation has gotten the OK to increase power rates across the territory starting Monday.

The N.W.T. Public Utilities Board approved the 4.8 per cent interim rate hike on Wednesday.

Most residential customers will see their monthly bill increase by under $5, according to the power corporation. As we head into winter, that monthly increase will grow to about $7 a month for most customers.

The Public Utilities Board is nowmulling the power corporation'sgeneral rate applicationforfurther rate increasesthat would take effect in March 2017 and March 2018.

The power corporation says the extra money is needed to help fill a shortfall in revenue.
