Peter Kingwatsiak, a Cape Dorset man who killed his stepbrother five years ago, admitted today in court that he intentionally shot Mappaluk Adlain his home, and that he remembers committing the act.

The admission is contrary to Kingwatsiak'searlier testimony, in which he admitted to killing Adla, but said that he was high on gasoline fumes and did not remember the act.

Kingwatsiak'slawyer has arguedhis client was high at the time of the shooting and did not remember the act, and that his charges should be downgraded to manslaughter. Kingwatsiak is facing charges of first degree murder in the shooting.

In his testimony Friday morning, Kingwatsiaksaid that he shot Adla in his home, from less than a metreaway. However, he allegeshe only meant to shoot the victim in the arm to wound him, andit was an accident that the bullet struck Adla in the forehead. He saidhe rushed out of the house when he realized what he had done.

In his testimony earlier this week, Kingwatsiaksaidhe inhaled gasoline from a nearby snowmobile, blacked out, and came to standing outside Adla's house after the shooting.

Kingwatsiak will be back on the stand this afternoon.
