Pickup truck catches fire after hitting deer on Klondike Highway

A pickup truck caught on fire after hitting a deer early Friday morning on the Klondike Highway north of Whitehorse.

Driver not injured in collision, deer killed

A pickup truck caught on fire after hitting a deer early Friday morning on the Klondike Highway north of Whitehorse.

The Whitehorse Fire Department was called around 4:45 a.m. to help theHootalinquavolunteer fire department deal with the vehicle fire.

BarryBlisnerof the Whitehorse fire crew says the pickup was headed north on the highway when a small deer jumped out onto the road.

After the animal was hitthe front end of the truck caught on fire.Blisnersays it was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived.

He says the driver was shaken but was not injured.The deer was killed.

TheHootalinquavolunteer fire department will investigate.
