Police ID victim in fatal Whitehorse shooting as Matthew Devellano

The Yukon RCMP has identified the victim of Friday's fatal shooting in Whitehorse as 32-year-old Matthew Devellano though no arrests had been made as of Sunday evening, following interviews with more than 40 people.

The Yukon RCMP has identified the victim of Friday's fatal shooting in Whitehorse as 32-year-old Matthew Devellano, though no arrests had been made as of Sunday evening, following interviews with more than 40 people.

More than 30 officers have beeninvolved in theinvestigation the city's first homicide of the yearand it remains a "high priority,"RCMPsaid in apress release issued late Sunday afternoon.

The number of witnesses is expected to grow.

Investigators are still hoping to hear from people with information about a darkminivan, possibly red or maroon, that was seen fleeing the scene of the shooting shortly after10 p.m. Friday night outside a house on StanMcCowanPlace. The tip line is867-667-5555.

Public asked to 'remainvigilant'

Though Devellano'sshooter is still on the loose, thehead of the Yukon RCMP's major crimes unit,Sgt. Greg Holmberg, said the RCMP doesn't believe the public is at risk.

"However, we are taking the severity of this incident very seriously, and are asking the public to do the same.

"The person(s) involved in this incident may still be around, and could be armed. Please remain vigilant and report any information to RCMP."
