RCMP seize huge quantities of booze on Sahtu winter road

Tulita RCMP have seized large amounts of alcohol in recent weeks during searches of vehicles on the Sahtu winter road.

The last three large seizures comprised a total of 156 bottles of vodka and 152 containersof beer. Three peoplehave been charged with offences undertheGNWTLiquor Act in relation to those seizures.

TulitaRCMP have been conducting dailycheckstopssince the opening of the winter road from Norman Wells.

Liquor is restricted inTulita. Residents are allowed to possess, in a 24-hour period, a 40ounce bottle of spirits, five 750-ml bottles of hard liquor, five 1.14-litre bottles of hard liquorand12 355-ml cans or bottles of beer.

The RCMP is asking anyone with information about illegal possession of liquor in the community to call the Tulitadetachmentat1-867-588-1111 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 if they wish to remain anonymous.
