Man struck by vehicle at workplace

The RCMP is investigating after a man was killed at a tire shop in Whitehorse.

RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Don Rogers said police were called to Integra Tire, at the corner of Industrial Road and Two Mile Hill, yesterday afternoon, along with firefighters and paramedics, to help a man who had been hit by a vehicle.

Rogers said the 34-year-old man was declared dead at Whitehorse General Hospital. The man's name is being withheld by the RCMP until his family is notified.

The Yukon Workers Compensation Health and SafetyBoard is also investigating because the incident happened at a workplace.

"I can confirm it was a workplace-related injury," said Kurt Dieckmann, director of Occupational Health and Safety. "What I can tell you is that the person was struck by a motor vehicle that resulted in the fatality."
