The search for a missing 11-year-old boy in Kugluktuk, Nunavut, has been called off.

RCMP confirmed Friday afternoon they were ending the search for Jonas Klengenberg, who went missing the morning of Aug. 1. RCMP said the family has been notified.

Klengenberg's disappearance triggered searches of the land and river near the community. His family said he was last seen wearing grey one-piece pyjamas and black and red shoes.

Family members told CBC Klengenberg has Down syndrome and is non-communicative, which could make it harder to find him.

Search efforts were scaled back to a ground search earlier this week.
