Search for Yellowknife man continues

Yellowknife RCMP continue to search for a 37-year-old man who disappeared more than two weeks ago.

George Collins was last seen Sept. 8 and was reported missing the next day. While efforts by volunteer ground and air searchers last week failed to locate Collins, the RCMP have continued to search for him.

Police combed an area around the Frame Lake Trail on Monday, after a woman came forward over the weekend to report a possible sighting.

"We did receive a tip yesterday from a woman advising that she thought she may have seen Mr. Collins in the area, the same area that we had been looking in the past. RCMP did follow up on the tip and they searched the area and were not able to find him," Const. Kathy Law told CBC News on Monday.

"The search is continuing today and again, it's police officers that are searching in the area," she added.

"They have cordoned it off just to keep other people out, and we do have the police dog up from Hay River and his handler and they are searching in that area."

Police describe Collins as a Mtis man, about 6'1" in height and weighing about 250 pounds (113 kilograms). He has dark shoulder-length hair and may have facial hair.

Collins, who has a history of mental illness, is known to spend time out in the bush. However, his uncle has expressed concern about Collins's well-being as temperatures in the Yellowknife area begin to drop.
