Family suspends search for Jeremy Scurvey, missing Whitehorse man

Relatives of Jeremy Scurvey have haltedthesearch for him, exactly one month afterthe Whitehorse man disappeared.

Scurvey, 25,was last seen in the Yukon River near the bottom of Lambert Street, on the morning of Oct. 10. Since then, police have searched the river and also done aerial searches of the broader area, in case Scurvey managed to get to shore. They have found no sign of him.

Today, a crowd of loved ones gathered near the spot to commemorate Scurveyand mark the end of the search.

"It symbolizes a little bit of closure for us, for the family," said Scurvey's aunt, Darlene Scurvey.

People at the vigil released balloons to the skyand scattered flowers into the river. They also said prayers, hoping that Scurvey may yetbe found.

Darlene Scurvey saidthe search was halted because the family worries it's getting dangerous as winter sets in. But shesaidit will likely resume in spring asher sister, Jeremy's mother, is still hopeful.

"She will not give up until she finds Jeremy,so we're standing 100 per cent behind her," Scurveysaid.
