Search on for missing Yellowknife man

A search and rescue team is launching a ground search for a Yellowknife man who has been missing for almost a week.

A search and rescue team is launching a ground search Tuesdayevening for a Yellowknife man who has been missing for almost a week.

George Collins, 37, has been missing since Sept. 8. He was living with his uncle in the city, and family members are very concerned about his well-being, according to police.

"In this particular situation, we do feel that there is a strong need to get out and find this man and bring him home safely to his family," Yellowknife RCMP Const. Kathy Law told CBC News on Tuesday.

Law said RCMP officers began looking for Collins several days ago. On Tuesday afternoon, police sought the assistance of Yellowknife Search and Rescue.

Volunteer searchers are expected to focus their ground search on an area between Frame Lake and the Yellowknife cemetery. Law said a possible sighting was reportedthere on Sunday.

Law said this is not the first time Collins has been absent for several days without checking in with family members.

Police describe Collins as a Mtis man, about 6'1" in height and weighing about 250 pounds (113 kilograms). He has dark shoulder-length hair and may have facial hair, Law said.

Anyone with information about Collins is being asked to contact the Yellowknife RCMP.
