Stand off near North Mart in Iqaluit ends peacefully

RCMP in Iqaluit say a 21-year old man is now in custody following a more-than-three-hour-long standoff near the North Mart in the city.

Police say they got a call at about 6:15 a.m. Saturday morning regardinga distraught man with a firearm in a home.

RCMP Emergency Response Team and crisis negotiators were deployed, and officialsblocked off the road in the 700 block.

RCMP reached an agreement with the manafter more than three hours. Hesurrendered and is now in custody.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
