Woman charged with murder in Apex shack fire

A 50-year-old woman from Apex, near Iqaluit, has been charged with second-degree murder in relation to a fatal fire on Saturday.

A 50-year-old woman from Apex, near Iqaluit, has been charged with second-degree murder in relation to a fatal fire on Saturday.

Eulalie Ussak is also charged with arson endangering life in connection to the blaze that killed her common-law partner, according to Iqaluit RCMP.

Emergency crews found the body of Kenneth MacFarlene, 50, in the burnt remains of theshack where they lived.

Ussak and MacFarlene were in a common-law relationship, police said Wednesday in a release.

Ussak has been remanded to custody and will appearbefore the Nunavut Court of Justice in Iqaluit on Friday.

This week, police have set up a tent over the crime scene, while officers continue to gather evidence.
