Young Tuktoyaktuk couple found dead

RCMP officers found two people dead in a cabin in Tuktoyaktuk Monday afternoon.

RCMP officers found two people dead in a small cabin in Tuktoyaktuk, N.W.T., Monday afternoon.

The G Division Major Crimes Unit and Forensic Identification Unit from Yellowknife are on the scene.

Police are releasing little information, but do say they're treating the deaths as suspicious.

According to an RCMP press release, officers responded to a call to the detachment received at around 3:50 p.m Monday. When they entered the residence, they found the two people dead.

Officials are still trying to reach the next of kin and no names have been released.

Tuktoyaktuk Mayor Merven Grubensaid the community is in shock.

"Everyone is feeling the mood of sadness and loss and confusion,"said Sister Faye Trombley with the Roman Catholic Mission.

"And just the darkness of the outside24 hours darknessis somehow darkness that we're feeling in our spirit. And its not a time for curiosity, its not a time for questions, its not a time for understanding, its just a time to be there. This is heavy for all of us."

Trombley says people are coping by getting together and sharing food with those who are mourning.

It's been a tough week for the community.Besides the couple found in the cabin, two elders also died earlier this week.
