1 arrested after armed standoff in Iqaluit

Police in Iqaluit arrested one man after an armed standoff at an Arctic College residence building early Thursday morning.

Police in Iqaluit arrested one man after an armed standoff early Thursday morning.

RCMP say they were called to the Arctic College 'Q' residence building 504a densely-populated area close to the main campusat 1:40 a.m. local time Thursday.

According to police, they were met by a drunk man brandishing a high-powered rifle. The man fired a shot and then a stand-off began.

Police eventually arrested the man without incident at about 5:30 a.m. No one was injured.

The name of the accused is not being released until charges can be laid.
