Former Inuvik, N.W.T., teacher guilty of assault

Hugues Latour, a former teacher in Inuvik, N.W.T.,has been found guilty of assault.

Latour, 39, was also found guilty of forcible entry and a breach of court conditions in court in Inuvik Tuesday afternoon.

The charges stem from a dispute he had in 2011 more than a year after he lost his job as a school teacher and just before he was charged with making pornography.

In court, Latour admitted he was in a relationship with a 17-year-old girl. She was one of two girls who testified against him at the trial.

The girl testified that she stole marijuana from Latours house. The prosecution said Latour then pushed her in order to enter her house a claim the defence said never happened. The girl was not hurt in the incident, but she described Latours manner as threatening. The girls story was supported by her friend who was in the room at the time.

Judge Robert Gorin said he believed the girls testimony. He said the story was backed by angry Facebook messages sent between Latour and the victim.

Latour will be sentenced on these charges on Friday.

But Latours court dates arent over he will be back in court next week to face charges related to sexual contact with a minor as well as the making and possession of child pornography.

That trial begins May 9 in Inuvik.
