Stanton Territorial Hospital in Yellowknife is conducting elective surgeries again this week, after repairs were made to the equipment used to sterilize surgical tools.

Stanton Territorial Hospital had postponed elective surgeries in the past few weeks due to problems with its sterilization equipment. One machine already been fixed, according to a health official. (CBC) ((CBC))

Problems with the hospital's sterilization machines prompted the hospital to perform only emergency operations in recent weeks.

As a result, 16 surgeries were cancelled in January and another three weeks worth of operations were put on hold this month.

N.W.T. Health Department Spokesman Damien Healy told CBC News that all affected surgeries have been rescheduled, now that one machine has been repaired.

A second machine will be back up and running by Monday, he added.
